On August 20th, in what was truly a labor of love and dedication, a consortium of literacy advocates gathered at the San Diego Food Bank and participated in the distribution of over 11,000 books for low income children. The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) contributed to this impactful event by distributing 500 books among school sites located in high poverty areas. The schools’ administrators were incredibly grateful to receive these books for their young readers.
The picture below shows the early arrival groups who started unpacking massive boxes of books and sorting them according to title and age groups. The following representatives were present for the unpacking and organizing: FGP Program Director, Sharin Yetman and Advisory Council members Sandy Lawrensen, AC Chair, Cynthia Trusso, Monica Freymiller and Andrea Roper.
