Letter from the Executive Director

Message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends and Family of Catholic Charities:

2019 marks the start of our Centennial celebration; 100 years of unwavering service to our communities through passionate response to the poor and community leadership. Since 1919, faithful partners like you have empowered us to serve the hungry, homeless and marginalized people of San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Thank you for enabling this tradition of witness to a world in need of hope. With every person we serve the Gospel message of Matthew 25:35, 40 rings true –

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me. And the king will say to them in reply “Amen I say to you, whatever you did for me for one of these least of mine, you did for me.”

As a token of our appreciation and of those we serve, I share with you these stories of lives changed by our Men’s and Women’s Homeless Services programs:

Tammie’s Story

At Rachel’s Night Shelter, Tammie made breakthroughs in addressing her past alcoholism and developing a healthy emotional life, giving her the internal motivation to explore resources for permanent housing. Since 2016, Tammie has enjoyed living independently for the first time in her life.

“Rachel’s Women’s Center and Rachel’s Night Shelter saved my life. If you had not taken a chance on me, God knows where I’d be.” -Tammie

Jose’s Story

Jose, a lifetime farm worker, came to Guadalupe Men’s Shelter to seek temporary shelter in March 2018. With a safe place to stabilize his health, obtain citizenship, and find permanent housing, Jose is now thriving.

“More than a roof over my head, Guadalupe’s is a place to call ‘My home’.”  -Jose

Our ask is simple. Support the tangible impact that has changed countless lives like Tammie and Jose’s by making an end of year gift, whether it be $5 or $500, to fund vital Men’s and Women’s Homeless Services, in addition to our many other service programs.

With your gift, men, women and families in need will continue to receive basic needs (food, shelter, community and more) and resources to sustain permanent housing. Your gift champions the dignity of thousands of our homeless neighbors on their journey towards their full potential.

Make your contribution worth remembering. Donate today.
