On-Call Residential Technician – Graveyard
Position Description:
Rachel’s Night Shelter is a 35-bed emergency and short term stay facility for homeless women. The residents may be chronically homeless, or struggling with mental illnesses, substance abuse, trauma or physical ailments. The primary work of this position involves direct contact with, and close supervision of, homeless women enrolled in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Direct Service:
Orient residents to program; conduct intakes and explain rules, policies and procedures.
Provide coaching support for assigned residents
Monitor residents, observe behaviors & help residents maintain calm demeanor
Maintain and enforce program limits, policies and procedures.
Provide consistent presence in the residence, models decorum, calmness; instills confidence
Maintain facility and teach standards of cleanliness to residents.
Teach life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain environment, resolve conflicts, negotiate social service delivery system, etc.)
Provide socialization activities, as needed.
Supervise evening meal. Assist volunteers with meal service and other activities
Participate in periodic Residents’ Meeting
Operational Duties
Record and maintain attendance records; maintain sign-in logs and other record keeping tools/procedures.
Stock, organize and distribute supplies.
Launder linens of outgoing residents, as needed.
Keep management apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by the residents of the shelter or related to staff members.
Make accurate reports to
Secure facility prior to leaving for the day.
Complete assigned shift duties.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Associates (A.A..) degree, from a community college in social services, administration or related field
3-5 years’ experience in social services, preferably in a shelter program, or in a program serving women and children or equivalent combination of education and experience.
DESIRED: Bilingual English/Spanish.
Valid California Driver’s License and automobile insurance in compliance with Agency requirements.
Current CPR and First Aid Certifications.
Ability to follow and enforce established agency, department and program policies and procedures.
Ability to work independently and/or with minimum supervision.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to interpret data reports
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of people internally or externally and employees of the agency.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently stand; walk; and use hands to finer, handle, or feel.
Occasionally may be required to sit; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Specific vision abilities include close vision.
Schedule: Graveyard Shift (11:00 pm – 7:00 am) Flexible, (PT 8 hrs. per week plus, additional on-call hours when needed)
Salary: $13.00 per hour (plus $1.00 per hour shift differential)
