Residential Technician (Overnight Shift)
Rachel’s Night Shelter is a 35-bed emergency and short term stay facility for homeless women. The clients/residents may be chronically homeless, or struggling with mental illnesses, substance abuse, trauma or physical ailments. The primary work of this position involves direct contact with, and close supervision of, homeless women enrolled in the program.
Direct service to residents:
Provide morning wake up; supervise morning routines of residents including showers, chores, checkout, or other.
Monitor environment of RNS; observe behaviors of residents; make reports in daily log as required by Supervisor and program design.
Maintain and distribute supplies; maintain facility and teach standards of cleanliness to residents
Report and keep management apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/ or concerns expressed by the residents of the shelter or related to staff members
Complete assigned log/ shift notes, case notes and assist with monthly reports; provide data input as needed
Building & Program Security:
Provide security for the program and building during business hours.
Monitor residents to ensure a secure, safe, peaceful environment suitable to sleep
Complete periodic bed checks, at least quarterly (every 2 hours) security checks of entry & exit doors, windows.
Make accurate incident reports to supervisor and complete related paperwork. Keep management apprised of issues of safety & security, and problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by the residents of the shelter, its operation, or management
Associates Degree; plus one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university.
Familiarity with Microsoft Windows XP, Internet Explorer, and windows file management.
Use of a computer, Internet, email and telephone systems.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to establish and maintain strong personal boundaries.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability and willingness to operate program equipment. Sensitivity to the needs of low-income homeless men.
Desired: one year experience in a homeless men’s shelter. Must possess excellent customer service and active listening skills. Bicultural preferred. (Spanish speaking)
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Schedule: Full-time 40 hours (Tuesday-Saturday – 11:00 pm – 7:00 am)
Salary: $13.00 per hour, plus additional $1.00 per hour shift differential
