WHAT IS CASE MANAGEMENT?

Case management refers to a collaborative and planned approach to ensuring that a person who experiences homelessness gets the services and supports they need to move forward with their lives. Originating from the mental health and addictions sector, case management can be used more broadly to support anyone experiencing homelessness. It is a comprehensive and strategic form of service provision whereby a case worker assesses the needs of the client (and potentially their family) and, where appropriate, arranges, coordinates and advocates for delivery and access to a range of programs and services designed to meet the individual’s needs.

WHAT IS A LOW BARRIER SHELTER?

Low Barrier Shelter means an Emergency Shelter that does not require any of the following for a client to stay at the shelter: criminal background checks, credit checks, income verifications, program participation, sobriety or identification. Low Barrier Shelters, may however, enforce safety requirements for self, staff, place, and others.

WHAT DOES TRAUMA INFORMED CARE MEAN?

Trauma Informed Care looks at physical, psychological, and emotional safety for a client. Trauma-informed means that we understand that an individual has had a traumatic experience which often intersect in their lives. We take extra steps to make sure an understanding and compassionate attitude is taken to respond to the effects of all types of trauma. 

DOES AN INDIVIDUAL NEED TO BE CATHOLIC TO RECEIVE SERVICES?

NO, an individual does not need to be Catholic to receive any services at CCDSD. In fact, Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego takes any form of discrimination very seriously. We offer our services, programs and support to anyone who comes to us.
